MINIMUM GENERAL SALARY 2021

On December 23, 2020, the minimum wages that are effective as of January 1, 2021, were published in the Official Gazette, to read as follows:

The general area salary increase from $ 123.22 to $ 141.70 is integrated according to the following:
- An increase through the mechanism called Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) of $ 10.46 to bring the minimum wage to an amount of $ 133.68
- An increase of 6% on the aforementioned amount of $ 133.68 to reach the amount of $ 141.70
- In total the increase is equivalent to 15%
The salary increase of the North Border Free Zone from $ 185.56 to $ 213.39 is integrated as follows:
- An increase through the mechanism called Independent Recovery Amount (MIR) of $ 15.75 to bring the minimum wage to an amount of $ 201.31
- An increase of 6% on the mentioned amount of $ 201.31 to reach the amount of $ 213.39
- In total the increase is equivalent to 15%
Professional minimum salary will have an increase of 15% for the area of general minimum wages and will be $ 213.39 for all professions and trades in the ZLFN (except reporters). As a novelty, two trades are incorporated into the professional minimum wage system: that of domestic worker and that of agricultural laborer.
It is important to mention that together with the Resolution of the H Council of Representatives of the National Commission of Minimum Wages, a manifestation of the representatives of the Employers’ Sector was published, consisting of 14 points, in which they express themselves against the increase set in this Resolution, considering that it is not reasonable or in line with the current economic reality of the country severely affected by the pandemic, as it will complicate the generation of new jobs and put the preservation of current jobs at risk.
